Rising Up from the Ashes of Defeat

"Can anyone hear my silence? Can they hear my tortured screams behind closed doors? Do they see the bruises in my soul, so painful I am crying every day?" These words were penned years ago in one of my journals, following a particularly difficult season.

As I wondered how to rise up from those ashes, a song came to mind… perhaps a silly song, but it was sung in "Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang" during the part where the inventor, Grandpa Potts, is forced by Vulgarian captors to build a car that floats – or else! The other prisoners, long held captive, sing "The Roses of Success" to encourage him on…

Every bursted bubble has a glory
Each abysmal failure makes a point
Every glowing path that goes astray
Shows you how to find a better way
So every time you stumble, Never grumble
Next time you'll bumble even less

There is beauty inside your story, but until you begin to tell your story the beauty lies like a treasure buried in ashes.
