Let’s Count the Stars

"Meet Me on the Moon"

By: Susan Deborah Schiller

On the horizon bloomed an orange light, as if an alien ship had just touched down in the stark, barren plains of a winter's evening in the middle of South Dakota. My granddaughter and I had been traveling for over a thousand miles and in front of my weary eyes this fiery glow lit up the horizon as if it were sunrise and not several hours past twilight.

"Who put that man on the moon?" we pondered. The ancient face smiles down upon us as we cross the border into Iowa, hours later. And I remember the day God beckoned me, "Little One, let's count the stars."

It was like an invitation to meet him on the moon, only the image I saw through eyes of faith (a vision) was of a circular, transparent room in the heavens… much like a sun room in a house, all made of glass, where you can see in every direction: sky, garden, trees, and flowers. Except this room was hanging in the heavens and it seemed that one of God's pleasures was counting the stars. And he wanted to share this joy with me!

In that state of joy, I felt all these things, too:

There's order to the universe.

   There's purpose.

      There's wisdom.

         There's meaning.

Whenever I gaze into the heavens, it's a time to meet with my Creator. It's a time to share his joy in this amazing creation. It's a time to remember he's in control, not me, and that it's possible to create order and beauty out of darkness and chaos.

It's more than possible – it's God's pleasure to teach us these things. Each time I meet with him, I learn something that makes my trials and suffering here on earth more meaningful. I also think it's pretty wonderful that the crators and shadows on the moon are shaped to look like a smiling man. I think God smiles and laughs a lot, and I know he loves to meet up with us and show us his wonders in all of creation!

He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. – Psalm 147:4

Love this. Reminds me of Psalm 18:19 "He brought me into a spacious place…"

Visiting from FMF. Blessings to you.
