God's Laughter

God is the kindest, most joyful, fun-loving, totally unpredictable, wild and most awesome Person ever! It's the most life-changing discovery in my life!
I have been discovering God's nature everywhere… in the outdoors, in stories, in books, in movies, in the Bible, and in my dreams… but until I realized that God is everywhere and that all truth is God's truth, I used to think I had to go to church or find truth in chapters and verses… but no, God is everywhere and unlimited! Many of us simply need a bigger vision.
God noticed my myopia and gave me new vision… eyes to see who He really was, instead of who I thought He was. While he was at it, He also gave me ears to hear His laughter!
I had a dream…
As I slept one night I dreamed I was walking through a school cafeteria loaded down with an armful of books. I couldn't help but notice two guys sitting at a table laughing together. There was something different about those two – their good-natured humor was so appealing and they seemed completely happy just to be with each other.
Their joy was contagious and I found myself responding to their wave to come and join them. It was a father and son inviting me to sit down with them. The father smiled at my armful of books and told me to set them aside, relax, and just enjoy being with his son.
He wanted his son to marry me! And somehow it felt so right. It seemed like I could sit forever with these two men and never be bored… I watched as they looked at each other and broke into gales of laughter. The jokes they shared between them seemed to be a never-ending source of pleasure! I felt totally accepted and at home with them! That was the end of the dream…
I believe God loves stories and adventures, and when we are IN the story we receive the teaching heart-to-heart instead of mind-to-mind.
So much of what passes for education today is aimed at reaching our heads but not our hearts. Our heart is the fountain of life – it's an overflowing fountain springing up from the Source, God our Maker himself.
We are formed in His image and carry His heart within ours. Proverbs 4 tells us to guard our hearts for it's the wellspring of life. We're also commanded in Proverbs 3 to not depend on our understanding because His ways are so much bigger than our little minds can comprehend.
I have remembered this dream for so many years – in high definition living color, animation, and audio! Because I was "there" – it wasn't simply my imagination – it was a window to Heaven that opened for me a reality of the Love of my Father.
Anytime I start to get too serious, too intense, or too studious, I remember this dream and it's like the window to Heaven is still open and I can revisit this vision anytime I like.
So many of us read books, go to conferences, and ask for prayer… because we need His touch. We want to hear His voice and know that we are accepted.
God is saying to us, "While all those things are good, don't forget to sit and talk with Me. Come away with me and listen to my heart!"
So many times people think they need to go to church to get their lives right with God… when all the while God is simply waiting for us to come to Him – and He is everywhere! He has promised to never leave us, never abandon reject us. (John 14)
Is it really possible to hear God's voice? Jesus said, in John 12, that His sheep hear His voice… so if you're a sheep of His, you definitely can hear His voice if you become still and listen with a willingness to obey.

Your dream reminds me of “The Shack”. I love the times they spent in the kitchen or around the dinner table. Oh to sit at that table everyday and laugh with Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Real joy.
Linda, I’m right there with you! What an incredible book “The Shack” is! The invitation to us is real, but so few of us take Him up on the offer to sit at His table every day… and hear His laughter! He had to wait until I was sleeping to slip the msg in… because I was so busy! Thank you for sharing, Linda 🙂

Susan, what a powerful dream! These are the kinds of experiences that shape who we are and give others a glimpse into what drives us, motivates us and defines us. Exactly the kinds of things I would want my children and grandchildren to know…We clearly understand that we are affected by our parents and grandparents that came before us, but maybe not why. How wonderful to have the stories and experiences that create the layers of who we are to pass on. Thank you Susan for giving so many the means to do that!

It takes a willingness to be vulnerable, to not really care what people think about you, and to not force what you have discovered onto others, not even children… but to be generous and open with our lives. Too many feel isolated on their own islands… I truly love the diversity of everyone’s backgrounds and experiences!
