The Looking Glass

The Looking Glass

By: Susan Schiller

How we see ourselves is what we will sooner or later become, and when we see ourselves through God's eyes we reclaim our true identity… even if it feels preposterous, at first!

We are stepping into a new skin, as we dare to get naked and unashamed by discarding the old skin – the skin we've grown out of. This new skin will seem strange at first, but we "put on Christ" whenever we take time to contemplate the Truth of who we are in Him.

What we think about comes about. What we see is what we get. What we speak is being drawn to us, even now. I dare to peek into the looking glass, to see myself as God sees me.

Through God's eyes, I see a woman with deep pools of peace in her eyes. She is unafraid and bends with the Winds of ChangeIn fact, she calls for the Winds of Change.

I AM at peace no matter what is happening in the world. I AM not afraid of change or of disaster or anything evil.

Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, ~ Proverbs 3:25

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. ~ John 16:33

One of my core beliefs: I am groomed by God to grin in the face of disaster because His Love never fails. He is supremely confident in His ability to convert evil into Good, and therefore, I can face the future with confidence. I can create my world. I no longer need to bow to forces that are challenged by my truth; instead, I triumph over those forces and they are on the run.

I AM in God's presence all day and all night long. He never leaves my side. People remark to me that they feel God's peace when they are with me, and I know it's because I no longer fear lack or being alone.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.” ~ Hebrews 13:5

I AM one who confronts darkness by shining the Light of God within me. I change the atmosphere everywhere I go. I create beauty out of chaos. My wounds are windows for the Glory of God to shine through.

I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark. ~ John 12:46

I AM a happy woman, and I rejoice in my authority to help reconcile the world to our Creator. The cross I bear has made me humble and obedient so that false pride cannot steal my victory.

I AM victorious, even while bearing burdens and sacrificing my life.

Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. ~ Luke 9:23

I AM most happy on my knees. I delight in intimacy with Papa God. My daily habit of making every thought and deed a prayer intertwine my spirit with God so that His Spirit permeates my whole world.

I AM one with my Papa God. I AM the Bride of Christ. I AM one with every believer, always connected, even if I am shunned and abandoned by those in the world's system.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you." ~ Deuteronomy 31:8

I AM welcome in the homes of the misfits, the shunned, the exiled, and the sinners, because I know that kind of pain.

They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. ~ John 16:2

I AM never alone. When it seems I have too much to bear, I will remember Moses and Joshua, David and Jesus. I will remember that I willingly gave my life to Him and that He will carry me when I fall.

I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you … No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them… ~ Joshua 1:3-9

I AM a giant-slayer. I run to the battle and I laugh at my enemies. Papa God tells me He is training me to grin in the face of disaster. I AM totally confident, no matter what may happen.

He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. ~ Psalm 2:4

Through God's eyes, I see myself as a woman of grace and beauty that can translate that beauty onto canvas, into books, and on the dance floor. I see myself choreographing symphonies of rhythm by blending colors, sounds, and words.

I AM a right-brainer who lost her identity trying to be an administrator doing what others felt was what I'm good at. I may not yet be good at writing, but I AM a creative writer, a living room dancer, and a lover of music!

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness… ~ Psalm 30:11

I see a woman standing tall with enough courage to lead an armed force of warriors into battle.

I AM a warrior on my knees. My middle name is Deborah, and Deborah is arising like a lioness within me, releasing captives of predators.

‘Wake up, wake up, Deborah! Wake up, wake up, break out in song! Arise, Barak! Take captive your captives, son of Abinoam.’ ~ Judges 5

Through God's eyes, I see a tenderhearted woman with open arms, ever ready to embrace a child.

I AM a lover and protector of children. I AM a child at heart.

And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ~ Matthew 18:3

Through God's eyes, I see a woman who owns large vessels – merchant ships. She also owns large tracts of real estate, even whole nations. I see purses with no bottom – resources to last a lifetime of lifetimes.

I AM wealthy. I own true riches, invest them into others, and reap a rich harvest of souls.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls. ~ Proverbs 11:30

I call this reflection of my soul the REAL ME.

If you'd like to take this a step farther, record yourself reading what you have written. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Whenever I have taken time to listen to my own voice saying God's promises over my life, that is when the most change has happened! This is one way to take a quantum leap, and to call into being what is not yet… to bring a piece of Heaven into the earth. It's the Lord praying through us, because it's His vision, His promises, and His Word!

Take a quantum leap. Pop a qwiff. Become who you are designed to be!

Sue, this is so powerful.  I was curious to see the word 'false pride'.  These are words I have prayed over myself and I'm not even sure what it means to have false pride!  Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit knows so I'll just keep following.  Thank you for being obedient and leading the rest of us out of darkness into the light of wholeness.  (I, too, may borrow some of your words. We are remarkably alike.)  ðŸ™‚

A lump arose in my throat, Joyce, to hear you say, “we are remarkably alike,” for I feel the same way – it’s so fun to journey together!

False pride, as I see it, is when we think too lowly of ourselves. We are magnificent creatures, designed by God himself, uniquely empowered by His Holy Spirit. He lives in us! False pride keeps us seeing ourselves as lowly worms… when in reality, as God sees us, we are an expression of God! We are His hands, His feet, His voice to the world. He wants to live His-story in us!

It’s very interesting you have been repenting for false pride, even without fully undrstanding it. I don’t have full understanding of anything… none of us do. But we can bounce ideas off of each other and learn and grow together!
