Beyond the Betrayal – Seeing through the Eyes of Love

Seeing Beyond the Betrayal

By: Susan Deborah Schiller

Betrayal is the worst kind of pain, because it usually blindsides us. We don't expect to be abandoned in such a hurtful way from the ones that pledged to love, honor, and cherish us no matter what. It seems impossible to ever trust again, to be whole again.

One day Papa God taught me how to see beyond the betrayal, to a new and better reality – one that I would have missed if I hadn't stop to peer through His eyes.

"Turn around and look in every direction. What do you see?
See through the eyes of Love.
When I look at you, I see through these eyes.

When the children are screaming and the dishwasher's broken.
If you're singing or if you're crying,
It's your choice, so choose to see through eyes of love.

Ask Me to give you hope-full vision.
Ask Me to Shine on your cloudy days.
Chances are you'll believe what you see.
So see through the eyes of love."

Seeing through the Eyes of Love is your chance to preview the changes you wish to see. What is God saying, right now, about your situation? Chances are, His perspective and His strategies are different than yours. Maybe even the opposite of what you've been doing.

If you don't yet see a way, have a new thought … get a fresh view… see through the Eyes of Love!

When I don't intentionally see through His eyes of Love, my default programming causes me to peer through the lens of fear, doubt, worry, and other mental diseases.

Love is the only lens by which all things are possible. Even that impossible dream you dare to believe for… especially for that area of brokenness that defies rational explanation… and particularly for those precious people you are carrying in your heart! See all of them through the eyes of love!

Writing Prompt: Glimpse at your biggest problem just long enough to identify it. Don't focus too long on it, but get a good feel for it. Go ahead and stir up the dark emotions, don't try to suppress anything. Then invite the King. He's already there, but keep looking inside the darkness until you see His Light, even if it's just a speck. Keep focusing on that Light.

Light is truth and beauty. Light is God's Word and promises. Light is love and mercy, kindness and grace, favor and wisdom…. Don't try too hard. Just let it happen softly, gently, like rain on the seeds buried beneath the soil of your heart. The full answer may not come in a moment, or even in a day… but as you keep focusing on the Light you will arise out of the darkness and begin to sprout. You are tending the garden of your heart.

Once you see the sprouts, celebrate them. Each word, each promise, each picture needs to be nurtured, tended, and loved. As you write the new picture God has given you, let it become what you focus on, instead of your current reality. Let love rewrite your future!
