Dealing with Abusive Men in the Church: Why You Don’t Need to Forgive Them or Offer Them More Grace

Abusers: You Don't Need to Forgive Them or Give Them More Grace

Sermon Audio by Sam Powell

I hope you will listen to Sam Powell's sermon (link above). I've taken a few notes from the sermon, below. What he preaches is contrary to the policy of many churches. It's the Truth, as I have experienced it. It's a sermon I highly recommend! This is my take-away from Pastor Sam's message:

God HATES abusers! The Church tends to love and protect them. They are children of the devil, not of God.

They are murderers and liars under a "front" of Christianity. These people should not be treated as normal people. They shouldn't be blessed or given grace.

They are not governed by their passions, but by the heart of their father, the devil. They are not like David, who murdered and lied, but then repented. They know what they are doing. They plan what they do.

They know how to weep, to all the right people, stressing how sorry they are.

The Church talks about forgiveness and reconciliation. "Now, you need to forgive them." The non-forgiving victim is rebuked, even shunned, for not "giving grace". (Oh, yes, that happened to me!) The fact is, God HATES this child of the devil… a man who will molest a child is a monster, a child of the devil.

God doesn't want us to forgive and forget that the abuse ever happened.

We must face reality. We need to see these abusers as God sees them. They are murderers.

Subjugation is an act of murder, the murder of your soul.

Abusers try to convince you that it was your fault, that you caused it to happen. The devil is a murderer and a liar and his children do the same.

When you forgive a Christian, you are promising to remember the sin no more; but since the abuser is a child of the devil, forgiveness is meaningless.

Abusive men love to hide out in the church, and they demand forgiveness when they are caught.

God can save these abusers. The blood of Christ covers the vilest offender, but at the same time there are many passages of Scripture concerning those who are devoted to destruction.

Their actions show they have no restraints. It is an abomination to God to bless these children of the devil. We should be exposing them for who they are.

It's time the Churchs stops worrying about hurting the feelings of abusers and speaks the Truth.

You may have forgiven your abuser over and over again. Only the Truth will set you free. Quit offering the blessings of Zion to children of the devil.

How can you tell the difference?

You don't have to. God knows who His people are. You can leave that to him. God knows who has been devoted to destruction. Leave that to him.

Leave the question of their salvation or judgment in the hands of God. If they are truly repentant they will understand their relationship with you has been forever broken.

They won't make demands. He will cast himself only on the mercy of God.

How can you tell if someone is not truly repentant? They are still making demands. They demand their wife not divorce them. "Marriage is for life." They are still manipulating, lying, and murdering.

If you refuse to go along with them, they will accuse you of being hard-hearted. They'll get a bunch of people on their side.

Certain sins are covenant-breaking sins. When a man plows on a helpless back as he would plow a field, he has forfeited all right to relationship. That break is not the victim's fault. He did it, not you.

When you leave, leave it all in God's hands. Your cords have been cut. Don't bless the abuser.
