Hope 4 Survivors

Hope for Survivors are pages from my journals, prayers, and meditations on the value of suffering in the Christian life. Most of these were written during my escape to freedom, not only from sociopathic abuse but from spiritual abuse in church.

I hope they encourage you as you walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death!

A Conversation with Papa God By: Susan Deborah Schiller There are still still days when life's stormy waters threaten to tumble me into an undercurrent of despair. It causes me to doubt myself, to blame myself, and to miss hearing God's loving voice. So I focus on Christ Jesus, who also suffered betrayal, rejection, and […]

Hold on to Your Promises By Susan Deborah Schiller You might think I'm free of smear campaigns, gaslighting, and all that evil manages to throw my way… not yet. God's still helping me to 1.) Grin in the face of disaster and 2.) Rule in the midst of my enemies.  I'm not where I thought I would […]

Light Will Come Bursting In By: Susan Schiller During a period when I was surrounded by people intent on slandering me, when even some of my closest friends betrayed me, I had to face the fact that I could not please these people, no matter what I did. I laid down the ministry that I […]

An Uncommon Peace By: Susan Deborah Schiller When I write, I write in peace. I write from a peaceful place. Peace is a weapon. To find that peace, I must retreat, rest, and re-examine all my promises. I must re-evaluate my position, check my compass, and listen for God's quiet voice amidst the thunderous roar […]

A Lesson from Jeremiah about Racing Against Horses By: Susan Deborah Schiller To love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength during the normal times is a good thing. To love him with the same passion (or more) when it seems the whole world stands opposed to you, is a whole different level […]

Listening in the Night Watches By: Susan Deborah Schiller The story you don't want to write may be sounding an alarm in the night watches. You can't sleep, stumble out of bed, and wonder if you should get something to eat or watch TV. But if you listen in the night watch, the untold story […]

Looking Deeper, Looking Beyond the Natural By: Susan Deborah Schiller   Photo Source Just because we don't understand doesn't mean that the explanation doesn't exist. — Madeleine L'Engle There's a friendship with God that is so deep you can only get to it on the same path Christ Jesus took when He was betrayed, falsely accused, […]

The Most Powerful Weapon to Defeat a Smear Campaign By: Susan Deborah Schiller The best part of life is creating memories with our friends and family. We laugh at old jokes and tease each other for past escapades. Who doesn't like to reminisce about the good ole days? It's like a fountain of neverending life, […]

Walking in the Light By: Susan Deborah Schiller I believe we're given "mission impossibles" because there's something we need to learn about God's nature and how it alters our ongoing life story. We're each here to experience and display the glorious facets of God's nature. We're designed to SHINE! For abuse survivors, our stories may seem […]

Evil's Silent Accomplice By: Deborah White Dove "In my hands I have a piece of piano wire and I'm going to slice off your breasts with it… Next, I'm going to put a bullet in the back of your head and watch your body drop into the rock quarry," threatened my husband, as he emphasized […]

Faith as a Catalyst for Hope and Love By: Susan Deborah Schiller There are still days when I feel disconnected… like my brain has a huge lag… when I feel lost in the dark. The neuroscience behind pathological love relationships helps me to understand there will be these kinds of days. It takes a long time […]

I Am Surrounded by a Holy Wall of Fire Are you feeling weak, vulnerable, or just sort of lost? It could be that your walls of protection have crumbled or perhaps were never built. I'd like to help you rebuild that wall – not an ordinary wall, mind you – but a Wall of Fire. […]

His Eye is on the Sparrow By: Susan Schiller The song, "His Eye is on the Sparrow," has been playing on the Spirit station of my mind. "Economic justice" is a phrase I've been running into a lot lately, and it's message is burrowing deep into my mind. Down beneath the layers of self-preservation. Who […]

Freedom "Leave me here freely all alone In cell where never sunlight shone  should no one ever speak to me This golden silence makes me free." Part of a poem written by a prisoner at Dachau concentration camp   I used to dream every night about escaping concentration camps. Inwardly, a concentration camp is our […]

Heaven is Near Earth By: Susan Deborah Schiller Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and a host of other diseases plague victims of abuse, like flies on a carcass. Church members who had watched me slipping away into the fog of PTSD symptoms told me, "You need intensive care. Why don't you go lay on a beach and […]

The Code: Making the Dark Light By: Susan Schiller "All Truth is God's Truth," was the first lesson I learned in college. Truth is the code that unlocks our inheritance – that launches us into a radical lifestyle – the one that Jesus modeled for us, and then told us, "You can do even greater […]

Reptilian People are More Prevalent than You Might Imagine By: White Dove A reader recently commented on how her pastor manifested as a reptilian with a forked tongue. She has the gift of discernment and is able to see beyond the natural. The sociopaths we have been talking about are actually reptilians. Without going into all […]

Beauty in Brokenness By: Susan Deborah Schiller Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;     … an object of dread to my closest friends—     those who see me on the street flee from me. I am forgotten as though I were dead;     I have become like broken pottery… An excerpt from Psalm […]

A Page from My Journal Susan Deborah Schiller Divorce is a torrent of treacherous waters, threatinging to tip me into a sea of despair. A smear campaign (again???) tempts me to doubt myself, to blame myself, and to miss hearing God's voice. So I am here writing…. waiting…. Most of all, I want to hear […]
